Freddy Hassan scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half, his huge second half helping Kaneland turn away visiting Plano 79-68.

Plano’s Davione Stamps was fouled trying a game-winning 3 in the closing seconds of overtime and calmly drained all three free throws for a 48-45 overtime victory at Ottawa.

Kaneland earned the No. 1 seed for the 60th annual Plano Christmas Classic at the seeding meeting conducted on Monday evening. The top eight seeds, in order, are Kaneland, Burlington Central, La Salle-Peru, Northridge Prep, Streator, Marmion, Morris and Hinckley-Big Rock.

Plano senior Waleed Johnson, who rushed for 1,303 yards, scored 20 touchdowns and led the Reapers in receiving in leading Plano to its second playoff appearance in three years, is the Record Newspapers football Player of the Year.
